Straight barbell piercing (frenulum and tongue, 1.6 x 12 x 5mm)

A barbell with a ball screwed onto each end of a straight bar. It is the type worn in the frenulum of the penis and in the tongue, and the dimensions on the photo are 1.6 x 12 x 5mm.

How to read the dimensions

The first figure, 1.6mm, is the bar thickness, the middle figure, 12mm, is the bar length, and the last, 5mm, is the ball diameter. Of the three, the bar thickness has to match your own piercing, and the bar length has to match the distance between the two points it passes through. Too short and the balls press into the flesh and hurt, too long and it catches on things.

Why it suits both places

The frenulum is the thin band below the urethral opening that joins to the foreskin, and the tongue is pierced straight across the middle. Both pass straight through flesh, which is why the same straight barbell is used. A 5mm ball is a comfortable size in either place.

Before you wear it

This is jewelry, not a piercing tool. The frenulum looks thin but blood vessels run through it, and the tongue is dense with veins, so piercing yourself can leave bleeding that will not stop or an infection. Have it done at a professional studio and only change the jewelry once it has fully healed. Worn in the tongue, a ball that repeatedly strikes the teeth wears the enamel down, so the bar length has to be right. Do not wear it in a wound or an unhealed piercing.
