A large captive ring for those whose existing piercing has been stretched wide. It comes in two gauges, 7mm and 8mm, with an inner diameter of 12mm. The material is titanium, and it is made to be worn in the Prince Albert position.
What the measurements mean
The two versions are 7x12x12mm and 8x12x12mm. The first figure is the gauge of the ring, and the two that follow are the inner diameter and the width. The 12mm inner diameter is sized to sit around the glans. Gauges of 7mm and 8mm are not sizes for someone newly pierced; they are for a hole that has been stretched over several steps.
A bead with a spring inside
There is a spring inside the bead, so a push with the thumb frees it from the catch, and pressing it back in makes it grip the grooves at both ends of the ring. There is no thread to turn, so it opens and closes easily by hand, and once seated it will not come loose on its own. After fitting the bead, check that the pins have gone properly into both grooves.
Titanium as a material
Titanium is light and does not corrode in body fluids, which is why it is used for jewelry that stays in the body for long periods. A large ring in 7mm or 8mm gauge would be a burden in weight if it were made of stainless steel, while titanium is light at the same size. The original text states that it irritates the skin less, so it is easier to wear for long periods.
Before you use it
The most important thing is the difference in gauge. If the ring is more than 1mm thicker than your current piercing, it should not be fitted. Any more difference than that will tear the hole, so have the piercing stretched at a professional piercing studio first. Before fitting it, soak it in 90% alcohol for 5 minutes to disinfect it and apply lubricant so the ring does not scrape the inside of the hole. Do not fit it into a piercing that has not healed or into a site with an open wound. Bear in mind as well that a hole that has once been stretched does not go back to its original size on its own.

How to use

Hold the ring in one hand and push the bead out of its catch with the thumb of the other.

Soak the ring and the bead in 90% alcohol for 5 minutes to disinfect them.

Apply lubricant to the piercing and over the whole ring.

Set the end of the ring at the hole and pass it through slowly, rocking it gently.

Press the bead back in, check that its pins have seated in the grooves at both ends of the ring, then move it around to the center.
Cleaning and storage
Being titanium, it can be washed with water and mild soap and will stand alcohol disinfection. Grime collects in the two grooves that grip the bead, so take it apart to rinse, wipe it with a dry cloth and dry it completely. While it is being worn, rinse around the piercing once or twice a day with saline. It scratches when it knocks against other metal, so wrap it in cloth and store it on its own, and do not share it with anyone.

Forcing it through tears the hole. A new piercing also has to be done by a professional, and nothing should be fitted into a piercing that has not healed or into a site with an open wound.
