Stainless steel cuffs (chain link·separate padlocks)

A restraint made of two polished stainless steel rings joined by a chain. There is no original description, so what follows covers only the structure visible in the product photographs. The rings open on a hinge, and the locking is done not by a mechanism built into the ring but by separate brass padlocks.

Locked with padlocks

There is no ratchet that clicks shut as you push it closed, as on ordinary handcuffs; you fit a padlock and lock it. Two padlocks and keys come with it, and with the padlocks removed the rings and the chain can be used separately. The fact that a key is needed to lock and unlock is what defines the character of this piece.

Metal rings of fixed diameter

No ratchet also means there is no adjusting the size. A thick wrist will not go in, and a slim one can slip out. In the photographs the size looks usable on both wrists and ankles, but the original listing gives no diameter, so you have to hold them against the body once they arrive and judge from there.

Before you use it

Unlike fabric or leather, metal rings do not give at all, so the pressure lands exactly where they grip. Worn for a long time they leave marks and cause tingling, so it is better to keep sessions short. If you lose the key you cannot undo them without tools, so deciding where the key goes comes before locking anything. The chain rattles as it knocks together, so quiet use is difficult.
