Durex Play Classic, 50ml. It is a pure water-based gel and it is made in Thailand. It leaves no stickiness or oily residue and is dialed in to give just enough glide.

Water-based, so it rules nothing out

The first thing to look at when choosing a lubricant is what it is based on. An oil-based gel degrades latex and tears condoms. A silicone-based gel softens the surface of silicone toys and makes them tacky. This product is water-based, so neither problem applies: you can apply it over a condom and use it on a silicone vibrator or sleeve.

Ingredients and volume

It is made from glycerin, purified water, propylene glycol, hydroxyethylcellulose, benzoic acid, xanthan gum, sodium hydroxide, citric acid, and carbomer. The bottle holds 50ml and has a press pump cap, which makes it easy to take a drop at a time.

It is not a contraceptive

Some people mistake lubricant for a contraceptive. This product contains no spermicide and has no contraceptive effect. It is there to reduce friction when the body is dry or produces little natural lubrication and sex hurts; contraception and protection against sexually transmitted infection are the condom's job.

Before you use it

The weakness of a water-based gel is that it dries. Over time the water evaporates and the glide fades, so you need to reapply partway through. In a bathtub or under a shower it washes away and barely any is left, so it is not suited to use in water. It contains glycerin, so if your skin is sensitive it is safer to test a small amount first.
